Dave Sisler (B. Mus. Ed., B. Ed., OCT) is the Head of Arts at Laura Secord Secondary School and District of Niagara Academy for the Arts in St. Catharines Ontario, a position he has held since 1990. A graduate of the University of Toronto where he studied with Gordon Sweeney, Mr. Sisler has been a trombonist with the Niagara Symphony since 1983. He currently directs Laura Secord’s numerous bands and choirs and has travelled around the world to showcase these talented students on stage with many professional artists including Kenny Rogers, Lights, Take6, Classic Albums Live, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Lorraine Segato, Robert Pilon, and Manteca. Most recently they have performed for the Mandela family and at the 2015 PanAm games. He has pioneered the use of the innovative visual art form of music notation called Tetracosmology in his classroom. Mr. Sisler is also the leader and head noisemaker of Secord’s famous Junk Band, where he has brought his engaging teaching style to the street. Mr. Sisler was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2007 and was featured in Professionally Speaking – the Ontario College of Teacher’s magazine as their exemplary teacher.
