Cathi MacDonnell

Cathi MacDonnell earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance Degree from the University of Toronto.  Her primary bassoon teachers have been David McGill, Kathleen McLean, Tom Elliott and James McKay and studied contrabassoon with Steven Braunstein.  She has been a regular performer with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra since 1995 as well as freelancing with many orchestras throughout Ontario, including the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Windsor Symphony, The Stratford Festival, London Symphonia, and Opera Hamilton.  In addition to her orchestral work, Cathi has performed with several chamber ensembles across the region, including wind trios and quintets.  Recordings include various CBC broadcasts as well as playing on the Barenaked Ladies’ break-through album, “Gordon”.

Cathi has served as a mentor with the National Academy Orchestra, Niagara Youth Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has taught at Redeemer University, as well as maintaining a private studio in her home in Stoney Creek.
