Walk a Mile in HER Shoes

Sep 13, 2016

Walk a Mile in HER Shoes is a symbolic march that gives men the opportunity to take a stand against the societal restrictions placed on women and specifically the issue of violence against women and children; it shows that men are willing to stand together with women in making the world a safer place for women and children. This year, Maestro Bradley Thachuk will don the pink pumps and walk a mile in support of Gillian's Place - but he needs your support! With a goal of $5,000, every little bit helps to provide services for women and children in need.

"It is an honour to have been selected as an Ambassador for this year’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes. I could not think of a more worthy cause to lend my support to. My life has been shaped by the strong women it. My mother, the only woman in our house growing up, has always been a beacon of kindness, wisdom and strength. Save one other man, my entire staff at the NSO is made up of women. Their intelligence, passion, unyielding work ethic, and fierce loyalty to the organization (and each other) have been fundamental in our transformation during my tenure from a struggling arts organization to one of Canada’s great success stories in the world of Arts & Culture. And I can already see in my 3-year old niece, Kara, an emotional intelligence and a fearless nature that teaches and inspires me. When I had the privilege to tour Gillian’s Place and learn more about the crucial work they do, I realized that our community can only benefit from the immeasurably important work they do, and irreplaceably vital services they provide. Every dollar given to this cause not only helps women and children who desperately need it, it makes our city, our region and our society a place we can truly be proud of." - Bradley Thachuk
